Police have confirmed their investigation into an alleged indecent treatment of a student at a Rockhampton school in August remains ongoing.

The Rockhampton Child Protection Investigation Unit is investigating a complaint of indecent treatment of a child which allegedly happened on August 24 at Heights College, North Rockhampton.

On Monday, October 10, some eight weeks after the alleged incident, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman provided an update on the situation.

“Investigations are ongoing in relation to an assault complaint involving two students at a Rockhampton secondary school,” the QPS spokeswoman said.

Police had previously said they were providing support to the complainant child and their family.

Last month this publication reported that due to strict laws around protecting children involved in crimes of a sexual nature, police were not able to reveal further details of the alleged incident.

Heights College principal Karen Bredenhann previously said the college had conducted an internal investigation into the incident, and it was supporting the students who were involved and their families.

Ms Bredenhann also said the college was providing its support to the Queensland Police Service investigation.

“Heights College is a caring community and the safety of every child is our most important priority,” Ms Bredenhann said.

“We are deeply concerned by allegations about a recent incident between two similarly aged students.”

Ms Bredenhann said while the police investigation was underway, it would not be appropriate for the college to make any further comment.
