A young boy has been rushed to hospital with burns to his face and body after an incident in Gladstone on Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 5pm, emergency services crews were called to Huntington Court, New Auckland.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a deodorant can had exploded in a boy’s face.

“It looks like it was a boy (in his) pre-teens,” the QAS spokeswoman said.

She said the boy was taken to Gladstone Hospital in a stable condition with burns to his face and upper limbs.

The QAS spokeswoman said it appeared the boy suffered second-degree burns and blistering.

Police were also called to the scene after an initial report the boy may have been attacked by another youth or youths.

“We’re on scene but it appears that the person that has been taken to hospital, it may have happened to them, themselves,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

“However, there are obviously some people that are assisting us at the scene.

“But it’s way too early to determine what’s occurred at this stage.”
