A tourist was rescued from a Central Queensland island over the long weekend after she slipped and fell face first on a rocky outcrop while bushwalking.

The RACQ CapRescue chopper was called to Great Keppel Island about 1pm on Saturday where the woman, an interstate tourist, suffered facial and lower limb injuries which rendered her incapable of walking.

An RACQ CapRescue spokeswoman said the woman’s family and friends were able to assist her to the beach where she was winched into the helicopter.

The spokeswoman said the patient was treated en route to Rockhampton Hospital where she required further treatment for her lacerations.
