A prolific criminal and drug addict who never completed a single minute of a 200-hour community service order is behind bars for supplying methamphetamines.

Jason Robert Beattie, 45, pleaded guilty on July 29 in Rockhampton District Court to one count of supplying a dangerous drug.

Beattie’s criminal record, as the court heard, had no significant gaps in offending, included 12 sentences by the court for drugs and conviction for a robbery where he pretended to be armed and only got away with $400.

At the time of the supply charge – June 2, 2020 – Beattie was subject to a probation order for which he is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court for on August 6 for allegedly breaching the order.

The supply in June 2020 was discovered in messages between Beattie and an unknown person where the unknown person asked if Beattie had any meth to which Beattie replied he could sell them 0.1 gram for $250.

He also had a bomb hoax conviction on his criminal record along with a conviction for armed robbery while pretending to be armed from an offence in Cairns.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said both of Beattie’s parents were alcoholics and they separated when he was 10 year old.

He said his client had received a compensation payment for being sexually abused as a child by a Scout master.

Mr Ahlstrand said Beattie, a father of two adult children, was also a stepfather to the children of his partner of 27 years.

“That relationship has ended but they are still friendly towards each other,” he said.

Judge Jeff Clarke sentenced the “prolific offender” to 12 months prison, suspended after serving four months and operational for 18 months.
