‘I couldn’t believe it’: Battlers’ tearful $2M lotto discovery

A Rockhampton couple were reduced to tears after finding out they had won $2 million in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

The couple held one of the 10 division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4177 on July 31.

The man said when he found out he had won $2 million it was enough to bring tears to his eyes.

He’d purchased the winning entry at Northside Plaza News.

“I’d gone to Bunnings yesterday, and I just thought I’d check my ticket on the way home,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it. My wife didn’t believe me, even though I was crying when I called her. I told her they were happy tears.

“When she checked the ticket herself later, she went all light-headed and limp in the legs.”

He said he and his wife had been “battling for years” to look after their family and would use the money to help their family enjoy life.

“We’ve worked hard all our lives,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s really sunk in, but we’ll use this to pay off any bills and the rest we can sit on for when we retire.

“We’re going to use it wisely to help our kids and family.

“One thing I do wish, I wish my Mum was alive so I could do something nice for her to pay her back for all the years putting up with me.”

The winning numbers in the lotto draw were 32, 41, 13, 16, 33 and 18, while the supplementary numbers were 9 and 19.

There were 10 division one winners, including four from New South Wales and two each from Victoria, Tasmania, and Queensland.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 267 so far this year, including 67 won by Golden Casket customers.
