Fifth person with Covid dies in Central Queensland

Another person with Covid-19 has died in Central Queensland, after 131 cases were recorded in the past 24 hours. Here’s what we know.

A person with Covid-19 has died in Central Queensland and another is on a ventilator in intensive care after 131 cases of the disease were recorded in the region in the past 24 hours, according to CQ Health.

The death was revealed in a report made on Thursday, February 10.

The patient was in their 90s with comorbidities, meaning one or more medical conditions, and was fully vaccinated.

It is the fifth death from Covid reported in the region since the pandemic began. Of those deaths, one was a person in an aged care facility.

CQ Health reported there were 131 new confirmed cases in Central Queensland residents in the past 24 hours, with the Rockhampton Regional Council area recording 52, Livingstone Shire recording 39, Gladstone Regional Council area recording 21, Central Highlands Regional Council area recording 14 and Banana Shire recording 5.

These numbers are only for PCR tests, which are from the Queensland Health testing sites.

There were no self-reported positive rapid-antigen tests in Central Queensland in the past 24 hours. However, according to CQ Health, there have been issues accessing the reporting database, which was expected to be rectified with Thursday’s numbers to be included with Friday’s numbers.

On Thursday, there were eight patients in the Rockhampton Hospital Covid ward. One patient was ventilated in ICU with the other seven patients in stable conditions.

Across the state, there have been 5854 new Covid cases overnight and eight deaths.
