Where every Covid-19 case is located in Qld

Parts of Queensland have passed their Covid peak while cases continue to climb in others after some suburbs recorded more than a thousand cases since borders opened on December 13. SEARCH YOUR SUBURB

New modelling has revealed that several Queensland suburbs have passed their Covid-19 peaks with more than 469,000 cases of Covid-19 in Queensland since the pandemic struck.

The peak of the Omicron wave, which began on 13 December when borders opened, is believed to have passed but case numbers continue to climb.

Health department data analysed by the Courier-Mail shows the five suburbs with the most cases since 13 December, 2021 were Redbank Plains (2494), Southport – North (1770), Upper Coomera – North (1699), Newstead-Bowen Hills (1693) and Coomera (1685).

Inner-city suburbs Fortitude Valley (1119) and South Brisbane (1039) had case number reach the thousands.

On the Gold Coast Mermaid Beach – Broadbeach has seen 1549 cases since 13 December while Currumbin – Tugun had 1165.

Thornlands had 1109 cases, 1197 in Kanimbla – Mooroobool, and 1054 in Woodridge.

There were only 14 suburbs that had not recorded any cases of Covid-19.

It comes as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said new modelling meant Queensland’s hospitalisation rate had peaked and was coming down.

“I’d love to say it’s over but it’s not, we’re still coming down off that peak and we’ve got that tail end in March,” she said.

Gold Coast, Metro North, West Moreton and Mackay were past their peak while Metro South, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Hinterland were just coming out of the peak.

Ms Palaszczuk said Townsville, Wide Bay, North West and Torres Cape were approaching their Covid-19 case peak.

Darling Downs and Central Queensland were yet to peak.

She said 8.7 per cent of the population on the Gold Coast had the virus and 8.1 per cent in Cairns.

Chief health officer John Gerrard said it was possible 50 per cent of the Queensland population could have been infected with Covid-19 by the end of the month.
