Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast has cemented itself as a leading tourism destination, taking home five gongs at the 2024 Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s Queensland Tourism Awards on Friday night.
The Queensland Tourism Awards returned on Friday for an evening of glitz and glam at Brisbane’s multimillion dollar venue, The Star Queen’s Wharf, following another big year for Queensland tourism operators.
There were 31 award categories ranging from attractions, events, tour and transport operators, accommodation, restaurants, accessible tourism, culture and marketing.
The statement from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council said across the 31 categories, tourism operators were awarded 80 awards including 31 gold, 25 silver and 24 bronze.
Leading the charge for the region, Rockhampton’s triennial cattle, cuisine and culture festival, Beef Australia, was awarded two gold awards in the Major Festivals and Events and the Excellence in Food Tourism categories.
Explore Rockhampton’s Accessible Tourism Campaign was awarded gold in the Tourism Marketing and Campaigns category for its efforts in showcasing the region’s inclusive and accessible tourism experiences.
Great Keppel Island Hideaway was recognised for its best in class accommodation with gold in the 3–3.5 star accommodation category.
Rockynats 04 was also awarded bronze in the Major Festivals and Events category.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council Chair Elsa D’Alessio said the awards highlighted the diversity of experiences and adventures awaiting visitors in the Capricorn Region.
“From colourful festivals and events to breathtaking accommodation and inclusive experiences, the Capricorn Coast region has so much to offer visitors and residents alike,” Ms D’Alessio said.
“It’s not just the variety that draws tourists to the region, as Explore Rockhampton highlighted, the region is abound of inclusive and accessible opportunities that allow everyone to experience the beauty of the region.
“I’d like to congratulate all of this year’s winners. It’s always an honour to celebrate the best of Queensland tourism each year, and I strongly encourage all tourism operators across the state to consider nominating for an award next year.”
Select category winners will gain automatic entry into the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary and will be held in Adelaide, South Australia, on March 21, 2025.
