Police are investigating after a rider was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was on collided with a cane haul-out vehicle during an overtaking manoeuvre near Eton.

The motorcyclist, a 56-year-old man, was rushed to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.

Mackay Forensic Crash Unit are calling for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage or information about the crash to come forward.

“Initial investigations indicate shortly before 3pm, a motorbike was travelling along Eton Homebush Road when it left the roadway and crashed near Oakenden School Road,” the release stated.

Emergency crews were sent to the scene of the motorbike crash at the corner of Oakenden road and Eton Homebush road on Sunday.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman said the motorbike rider sustained “serious back and chest injuries”.

The QAS spokeswoman said the man had first been reported in a stable condition “with back and chest pain” but his condition deteriorated to serious while he was being transported to the hospital.

Mackay Base Hospital confirmed the man’s condition remained serious but stable.

It is understood the motorbike was overtaking the cane haul-out vehicle when the crash happened.

It is understood no roads were closed following the incident.

The crash came as a man had a lucky escape after a terrifying cane haul-out vehicle rollover between Mackay and Proserpine.
