The Mackay Meteors have sacked NBL1 men’s basketball coach Matt Paps midway through the season.
The announcement comes despite the reigning NBL1 North champions being strongly poised to defend their title.
Their 6-4 record sees them placed third in the conference, despite the off-season losses of the likes of Luca Yates, Isaac White and Todd Blanchfield.
The club’s statement on Facebook said they “sincerely thank Matt for his time and contribution to the program and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.”
The club also confirmed that Meteors stalwart Brad Rasmussen would assume the role of playing head coach for the remainder of the season.
“(Rasmussen’s) leadership on and off the court has already proven to be a valuable asset to the group, and we believe this approach will continue to support both individual player growth and overall team success,” the statement read.
Both Mackay Basketball and Paps have been reached out to for comment.
More to come.
