Driver seriously injured in Peak Downs Highway crash at Epsom

A young driver has suffered serious injuries after his vehicle hit a tree and rolled, forcing emergency services to close a major regional highway for several hours.

A driver was taken to hospital with serious but stable injured after his car hit a tree and rolled multiple times on the Peak Downs Highway.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to a site on the Peak Downs Highway at Epsom about 1.20am Friday.

A QPS spokeswoman said reports indicated the vehicle had hit a tree and rolled multiple times down an embankment.

As a result a 25-year-old man, who was the driver and only vehicle occupant, was seriously injured.

A QAS spokeswoman said he suffered head, back and chest injuries and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Four fire crews were called to the scene and the Peak Downs Highway was blocked until 4.51am so the emergency crews could get the man out of the vehicle, which needed to be towed.

This comes less than one week after Andergrove truckie Myles Goggan lost his life after a terrible truck rollover on the Bruce Highway on Monday.

His vehicle was headed southbound when it left the roadway between Clairview and St Lawrence just after 11.40am.

Mr Goggan was critically injured and died at the scene bring the district’s road toll to 18 for 2023.

Barely two weeks earlier a driver was pinned inside his vehicle for almost two hours after it hit a tree severely damaging the SUV.

The incident occurred about 2.44pm on November 15 at the Fitzroy Development and Barada Barna Rd intersection at Valkyrie.

Another motorist had spotted the wreckage while driving past calling emergency crews, however luckily the driver’s injuries were minor.
