Myles Goggan is being remembered as a “brother, a son, and a friend to us all” after he died in a horror rollover on the Bruce Highway on Monday.
The 40-year-old’s truck was headed southbound when it left the road at Clairview, between Mackay and Rockhampton, about 11.40am.
The Andergrove man was declared dead at the scene, with emergency services unable to save him.
Myles was a keen dirt bike enthusiast, taking part in hill climbs and competing at the annual Grasstree Beach motorcycle races.
His brother Shane Goggan, who often rode alongside him, said it was with a “heavy heart” that he shared the news.
“You will be missed immensely . love you mate, we miss you already,” Mr Goggan posted to Facebook.
Bryan Paull commented it was “tragic” and his heart went out to Myle’s family and friends.
Dewayne Ryan said he was “absolutely devastated” and offered his “deepest condolences to all the family”.
Others shared their disbelief that Myles died while driving his work truck, while Sharlene Madsen posted that “we will have a couple for you tonight”.
Mackay Police District Office Inspector Glenn Cameron said on Thursday that driver error may have contributed to the crash but investigators had not yet reached a conclusion.
The truck had rolled down an embankment and came to rest on its side with timber strewn over the grass.
Both lanes of the Bruce Highway were closed for hours as emergency crews attended.
The fatality came just one week after another Mackay region man died in hospital following a truck rollover on the same highway just 25 minutes away in Clareview.
The back-to-back fatals have reignited fury from North Queenslanders who argue the Bruce is “absolutely horrible” between Cairns and Gympie and “unnecessarily” claims lives.
“Why is all the money spent down south and not up here,” Khloe Dales posted to Facebook.
“I can’t believe my eyes and ears another soul gone, another life taken.”
