A 63 year old grandfather who died in a horror quad bike incident is being remembered as a “true jokester” and a character with a heart of gold.

Adam Aubrey Hinde died on March 14 at Koumala, south of Mackay, after his quad bike rolled into a creek and trapped him under water.

Neighbours had desperately tried to help the grandfather until emergency services arrived but he died soon after.

A funeral notice stated Mr Hinde was a “beloved partner” to Patricia; “beloved father” to Angel, Danny, Lance, Stacey and Lewis; and “beloved poppy” to 10 grandchildren plus another still to be born.

“He was my partner and best mate for 20 years,” Patricia Harris commented on a memorial post shared in the Old Darwin Facebook group.

“He was an all around good person with a heart of gold, I miss him every day.”

Lifelong friend Chris Urban, who created the post, wrote Mr Hinde grew up in a home along Frangipani St in the Northern Territory suburb of Nightcliff, and was a survivor of ex-Tropical Cyclone Tracy.

Iain Croc Morrison commented he was “very sad” to hear of Mr Hinde’s passing.

“He was a character,” Mr Morrison wrote.

“Lived four houses down from him and was a school mate.

“RIP Adam.”

Mr Hinde’s colleagues have also shared their memories with Nick Ericksen describing him as “amazing man” and a “true jokester” who “had all the time in the world to listen”.

“He touched the hearts of everyone he worked with … he will be missed by many and I hate that I will never hear 0 line and 300 again (railway meaning),” Mr Ericksen posted to Facebook.

“I’ll miss ya Juddie.”

Mr Hinde will be farewelled by family and friends at cremation service at the Ian Phillips Crematorium Chapel along Malin Rd in Sarina starting at noon on Thursday.
