Desperate neighbours tried to save a man after he rolled his quad bike into a creek, leaving him trapped under water.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and a rescue helicopter, rushed to a property at Koumala, near Mackay, shortly before 8pm on Thursday as neighbours tried frantically to free the man.
Sadly, the man, believed to be in his 60s, died before he was able to be freed.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were called to the incident at 7.40pm Thursday, with the incident treated as non-suspicious.
“When police got there he was pinned under the quad bike and he was pronounced deceased a short time later … a tragic accident from the sounds of it,” she said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said when paramedics arrived they discovered the man trapped underneath the quad bike “in traumatic arrest”.
An RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter crew was also called to the scene with the team staying until other emergency services could arrive.
The incident marks the third fatal across the Mackay Isaac region in less than a week.
