A woman has suffered significant head, chest, leg and arm injuries after a horror head-on collision west of Mackay.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the woman was in a serious condition.
Parademics were working on her to stabilise her for transport to hospital. They also treated a male patient for knee injuries.
The two-vehicle crash occurred near Pinnacle, about 60km west of Mackay.
A utility vehicle was wrecked outside the rural property on Mackay Eungella Road, sustaining heavy damage to its chassis and bonnet with debris strewn across the yard.
Three ambulances, two police cars, and four Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were attending to another vehicle.
A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman confirmed the woman was entrapped with “significant injuries” with multiple crews called to the incident at 1.13pm.
Ambulance crews took two patients to Mackay Base Hospital, a female in serious condition and a male in stable condition.
It is understood the vehicle that entrapped the patient went into a ditch or embankment off the road.
“It appears for an unknown reason the west bound vehicle has crossed onto the east bound lane resulting in a collision between the two vehicles,’’ Mackay Forensic Crash Unit Senior Constable Michael Parker said.
“The east bound gentleman has been breath tested and had negative results.”
Paramedics attended an older male who was wrapped in a blanket and appeared to be in shock near one of the damaged vehicles.
A QFES spokeswoman said crews used their cutting gear to remove a door and make access to the person, and that the person was removed and in the hands of paramedics as of 2.15pm.
