A suburban KFC seems to be keeping track of their ‘Karen’ customers with a drive through whiteboard.
A whiteboard spotted by a member of the public at the Mackay Northern Beaches KFC earlier this week featured a tally under ‘Karen Count’ with four strikes.
When this masthead went to investigate, only traces of it remained, and it appeared to have been quickly and crudely wiped away.
The KFC manager declined to comment, first suggesting it was the city’s other KFC store.
However, when shown photos proving it was the same KFC drive through they did not dispute it.
The store had zero days since its latest mistake, according to an accuracy counter spotted above the Karen count.
Karen is a name which entered the English language from Norwegian as a shortened from of Katherine.
However in recent years it has been used to describe middle-class women — usually white — who are perceived as bossy, demanding and entitled.
The KFC store in Rural View first opened in 2019, adjacent to the Northern Beaches Shopping Centre.
The growing retail hub is set to add a cheesecake store, and plans have been lodged to turn the former Porters Mitre 10 building into a brewery offering food.
