Two young adults are fighting for their life after a serious crash northeast of Proserpine.

Paramedics responded to a single car crash into a ditch on Shute Harbour Rd in Cannon Valley about 12.45pm.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said a young man, believed to be in his twenties, suffered head and leg injuries and was in a potentially life-threatening condition.

Another person, a young woman also believed to be in her twenties, suffered significant leg injuries and was also in a potentially life-threatening condition.

Both were trapped but have been freed from the car and rushed to Proserpine Hospital.

The forensic crash unit has been called with several emergency crews on scene while a rescue chopper has also been called.

A Queensland Police spokesman said police were conducting traffic control at the Shute Harbour Rd and Gregory-Cannon Valley Rd intersection.
