Mackay
Don't miss out on the headlines from Mackay. Followed categories will be added to My News.
This year’s Book Week was incredible to witness across the Mackay Whitsundays with thousands of children excitedly bringing their favourite literary characters to life.
It went to show that even with today’s technologies, nothing beats a good book for sparking imagination, wonder, and joy.
With creations made from cardboard, paper mache, moveable parts, and more, every costume was magical for the child who wore it.
We asked our readers to help choose their favourite and so without further ado, here are the costumes you voted as your top 10.
5. Queen of Hearts and Macca the Alpaca
Fifth position was a tie between Olivia who dressed up as the Queen of Hearts and Noah who was inspired by Macca the Alpacca.
4. Titanic, Anemone, Mad Hatter
The title for fourth best Book Week costume was split three-ways between Miss T who went all out as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Tayla who found inspiration from the book Anemone is Not My Enemy, and
3. Crayons, Just Disgusting and Bumblebee
Coming in at number three was a twin-share between Helena who did her very best not impressed face to illustrate The Day the Crayons Quit and a transformer come to life with an impressive cardboard configuration of Bumblebee.
2. Jack in the Box
Also donning a 3D costume was our second place Book Week costume winner, Jhett, who was Jack in the Box.
1. Green Sheep
Could it have been cuteness of a baby dressed up as an animal, or was it the wooly resemblance to Mem Fox’s sheep? Whatever it was, young Mimi was voted as having the best Book Week costume for the Mackay Whitsundays for her adorable version of the green sheep from Fox’s classic, Where is the Green Sheep?
