Man steps on stonefish at Fraser Island’s Coongul Creek
The New Year has started badly for one man on the Fraser Coast, who was taken to hospital after stepping on the dangerous creature at a popular campsite.

The New Year has started badly for a man in his 30s who was taken to hospital after reportedly stepping on a stonefish at a popular swimming spot at Fraser Island.
The man was at Coongul Creek on the western side of the island when he stepped on the creature about 4.20pm Sunday, cutting his foot.
Rescue helicopter paramedics were called to Hervey Bay Hospital and then taken across to the island to help treat the man.

He was brought back to the mainland and the hospital about 10pm in a stable condition.
The suspected sting follows a spate of suspected irukandji stings on the on island in the days after Christmas.

Three young girls were flown off the island by the rescue helicopter after being stung on their upper bodies on Tuesday December 27.
They were swimming at Wathumba Creek on the western side of the island when they were stung.
Less than 24 hours later a young boy suffered a suspected irukandji sting on his upper leg while swimming at the same location.
