A fundraiser has been launched to help the Macdivitt family following a devastating fire at their home on Christmas Day.

The Gympie community is rallying to support a local family who lost their home and all their possessions in a devastating fire on Christmas Day.

A GoFundMe page was set up on Tuesday, two days after the fire, and had already raised $670 of its $20,000 target inside the first five hours.

“It’s time to help the gorgeous Macdivitt family,” organiser Rachel Dan wrote.

“On Christmas night this beautiful family lost their home and everything inside in a devastating house fire.

“Andrew, Katie and gorgeous little Emma, are the kind of people who never ask for help but would help anyone in a heart beat.

“For now while couch surfing between family and friends, monetary donations are probably most helpful in getting them back on their feet, but over time I’m sure they will be most accepting of other donations!

“Please donate to help Katie, Andrew and Emma.”

Emergency services were called to the family’s property at Chatswood just before midnight on Sunday, with reports that a veranda had caught fire.

When a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service crew arrived on the scene just after midnight, they found that the blaze had spread from the veranda and the building was well involved in flames.

A further three fire crews were dispatched to the property and two officers in breathing apparatus entered the house to help extinguish the flames internally while other crews worked externally.

Paramedics transported one patient who was suffering smoke inhalation to the Gympie Hospital.
