Car fire breaks out at home in Pandanus St, Gympie

Residents of a quiet Gympie street have staved off disaster after a car burst into flames in a front yard.

Residents of a quiet Gympie neighbourhood have averted disaster, helping to extinguish a car which burst into flames in the front yard of a home only 2km from the city centre.

Neighbours of the Pandanus St home rushed to the scene, bringing water and hoses to extinguish the flames after being alerted to the emergency by the sound of a blaring car horn just after 8.30pm.

Queensland Fires and Emergency Service crews arrived soon after, with the flames being extinguished before 9pm.

The car, a four-wheel drive, was destroyed by the fire.

Fireys and police were inspecting the vehicle in the aftermath of the blaze.
