Ben Eccles, Brett Rankin, Tim Hart will be among the big names to tee off at Gympie’s Adidas National Pro-Am Series in the Gold City and Tin Can Bay starting this weekend.

The Gympie Regional Council-supported event will take place at the golf clubs in both towns, with the Gympie Golf Club sharing links with the Pro-Am Series dating back to 1979.

PGA Tournament co-ordinator John Noble said the Pro-Ams were “a great opportunity for amateur golfers to play alongside some of the best golfers in the country”.

“The PGA and the professionals are excited to be heading back to the Gympie Region for both the Gympie and Tin Can Bay Pro-Ams and it is great to have the support of the Gympie Regional Council” Mr Noble said.

Previous winners of the Gympie tournament include Peter Senior, Michael Harwood and more recently Tim Hart, while Tin Can Bay have hosted 9 Pro-Ams since 1989 with their most recent event being played in 2019.

“2020 was a tough year with COVID-19 and the limited playing opportunities available, so it is good to see these events back on the calendar in 2021,” Hart said.

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said the Pro-Am would be an opportunity for the region to show off its “amazing” golf courses to a national audience.

“Being able to host two events of this scale further illustrates that as our region continues to grow, we will be capable of hosting other sporting events in the future,” Mr Hartwig said.

“Mark these two events into your calendar if you are a fan of golf, or just want a relaxing day out in the sun.

“I would like to thank everybody who has been involved with putting the Adidas National Pro-Am Series together.”
