A paramedic student and former captain of a prestigious Moreton Bay school is facing multiple rape and sexual assault charges after alleged attacks on a young male during Schoolies.
Lucas James Want, 18, was not present at Gympie Magistrates Court where his case was mentioned on Friday amid an application for disclosure by his lawyers.
Mr Want has been charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault in relation to the alleged offences, which are claimed to have happened across two days in November 2024.
He has not entered a plea to the charges.
The former student of Grace Lutheran College Rothwell was appointed to Faith and Service Captain roles in both Year 12 and Year 9.
He is currently studying to be a paramedic at Queensland University of Technology and works part-time as a gaming attendant and bartender at Redcliffe Leagues Club.
On Friday his lawyer Ashton Marini, who appeared by phone, asked for police to hand over a complete Cellebrite download of the complainant’s mobile phone data, and police QPRIME records on officers’ interactions with witnesses in the case.
Mr Marini said these were all “potentially relevant” to the charges against Mr Want.
The phone data would put their relationship “into context” Mr Marini said.
Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell strenuously objected saying the defence was essentially on a “fishing expedition”.
Sgt Campbell told the court unredacted QPRIME documents would include details like the witnesses’ personal phone numbers and home addresses, and next of kin.
Handing over a full Cellebrite download, would also give the defendant personal text messages between the complainant and his family.
“What right does my friend have to see a conversation between a juvenile and their mother from five years ago?” she said.
“It’s not relevant to this matter before the court.”
Magistrates Bevan Hughes split the difference on Mr Want’s application.
He agreed the request for the QPRIME documents was “akin to a fishing expedition” but ordered the phone data be provided by police.
Mr Want’s case was adjourned to October 13, 2025.
He will again be excused from appearing in person at the next mention.
