MyPolice Gladstone have used the novelty of a ‘misplaced’ drug bag to spread a serious message of the drug abuse they are witnessing throughout the region.

In a social media post on Friday morning, police said they were seeking assistance to locate the owner of a small clear bag containing a white substance, located at the Gladstone Valley shops on July 1, 2021.

“If this sounds like it belongs to you, please get in contact and tell us what is inside the bag, the exact weight and where you purchased it from. #Bestguessdoesntwin,” the post read.

“If you would like to claim ownership of the item and the associated gift from Police (notice to appear for court) or you have any information regarding the owner of this property please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Policelink on 131 444 and quote reference number QP2101196664.”

The post turned serious, however, when the issue of drug use and the impacts it has on the community was raised.

“Drug use can cause illness, injury and early death,” it read.

“Each year, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in Queensland accounts for an estimated 4,300 deaths and over 65,000 hospital admissions.

“Misusing legal or illegal drugs can damage your mental and physical health, as well as impacting on your relationships and work.

“If you are concerned about your own or someone else‘s drug use and would like more information to help, the following services are available.”

The spokesman said while they poked a bit of fun at finding this item, it was very serious.

“It impacts our community and we are very serious about disrupting any drug related activity and preventing the impact it has in our beautiful part of the world,” he said.
