‘Stupid’: Drunk mum made daughter mobilise car

A woman whose daughter blew into an interlock device to start her car .

Carmen Maree Granzien, 46, pleaded guilty on Friday in Gladstone Magistrates Court to one count of driving while the holder of a restricted license (interlock device).

Police rosecutor Merrilyn Hoskins said an interlock period condition was imposed on Granzien licence for two years on February 17, 2021.

She said police intercepted Granzien driving a white Holden Commodore on the Bruce Highway at Cherwell at 6.20pm on April 23, 2021.

Ms Hoskins said police observed Granzien driving with four young children in the vehicle.

The result of a roadside breath test indicated Granzien had a blood alcohol concentration in excess of her no alcohol limit.

Granzien told police she only consumed one stubby of beer several hours prior to being intercepted.

Granzien further stated she had her young daughter blow into the car’s interlock device in order to drive.

She returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.036 a short time later.

Ms Hoskins said the offence was Granzien’s third drink-driving offence in the past five years.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey labelled her behaviour ‘stupid’.

Mr Manthey fined Granzien $1000 and suspended from driving for nine months with convictions recorded.
