A driver has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening head injuries after his car crashed into a barrier on the Bruce Highway near Glenwood, north of Gympie, about 6.45am on Monday.
The crash happened near Deveron Rd, a police spokeswoman said.
The highway is currently closed in both directions as a result of the crash, she said.
Two people were in the vehicle at the time.
The male driver was struck in the head when a rock went through the windscreen as a result of the crash, a spokeswoman from the Queensland Ambulance Service said.
The man was in a critical condition and was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
