The niece of a Hervey Bay mother of four has written a heartbreaking tribute to her aunt, who died after a horror crash near Hervey Bay, saying she had “gained her angel wings”.

Kylie Thorburn, 44, suffered critical head and chest injuries in the car accident at the intersection of Booral Rd and River Heads Rd at Booral on July 5, 2022.

She died in hospital on Saturday, according to a statement from police.

Ms Thorburn had first been taken to Hervey Bay Hospital before being rushed to Brisbane Women and Children’s Hospital where her children kept vigil by her side.

A Go Fund Me page was started by her niece, Amy Fonteyn, to support the family while they remained in Brisbane.

After her death the page was updated, with Ms Fonteyn paying tribute to her aunt.

“Our beautiful Kylie Thorburn gained her angel wings surrounded by her kids, family and friends,” Ms Fonteyn wrote.

“Gone way before her time.”

Ms Fonteyn said the funds, which were being used to help the children stay by their mother’s side in Brisbane, would now help the children with funeral arrangements and for “life without mum”, the post read.

On Monday morning, $1560 had been raised.

Other passengers in the car at the time of the crash were Ms Thorburn’s two children, Joey Dunn, 16, and Lucy Thorburn-Hancox, 22.

According to police, initial investigations indicate around 3.50pm a white Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling north along River Heads Road, when it collided with a Toyota HiLux at the intersection of Booral Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 25-year-old Maryborough man was not physically injured.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash, or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
