Construction set to begin on Maryborough’s 7-Eleven

One of the entrances to Maryborough’s main shopping centre will be closed for about six months as work on a new development takes shape.

The Ferry Street entrance to Station Square Shopping Centre will be closed as of Monday when the new 7-Eleven outlet and Red Rooster building are constructed.

Entrances at Alice Street and Lennox Street will remain open to traffic.

Access to McDonalds and Bunnings will still be possible via Ferry Street.

The news comes after the Chronicle revealed earlier this year that the region would receive its first 7-Eleven outlet.

The store will be built next to the McDonalds on Alice Street, along with a Red Roosters outlet, which will move from its current home on Ferry St.

The Fraser Coast is set to welcome its first 7-Eleven next year.

The 7-Eleven is expected to open mid to late 2022, and will provide about 10 ongoing jobs and additional roles during the construction phase.

Other stores are being built in North Queensland and another is planned for Gympie.

7-Eleven Retail Area Lead North, Alan Plews, said the investment in new stores in the state in the past 18 months reflected the company’s commitment to Queensland.

“We’ve opened 14 stores in Queensland in the past 18 months, creating about 140 jobs and will continue to invest in our network over the next 12 months and beyond, including our first stores in Maryborough and Gympie,” he said.

“Our ongoing investment in growing our network to serve metropolitan and regional Queenslanders means there are strong career prospects for people in our team as our network expands.

“We will be encouraging Maryborough and Gympie locals to apply to join our retail team in 2022.”
