Sweet news for doughnut lovers with 24/7 development proposal at Chermside Shopping Centre

Their sweet glazed treats are well-known and well-loved around the world and soon you may be able to get your hands on Krispy Kreme’s delicious doughnuts 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Scentre Limited has submitted a development application to the Brisbane City Council to extend its offerings at Westfield Chermside with a new drive-through stand alone Krispy Kreme.
The long-time chain not only serves a variety of doughnut flavours but coffee and frozen drinks as well.
There are currently 31 stores in Australia, seven of which are in Queensland.
If successful, this will be the state’s first 24/7 offering.
Krispy Kreme Australia was the first country outside of North America to make the iconic “Original Glazed Doughnuts”.
Krispy Kreme’s story began in the 1930s when the Sydney Harbour Bridge had only just opened.

While the chain started selling to grocery stores it wasn’t long before the original doughnut retail store was born with Mr Rudolph cutting a hole in a store wall and selling doughnuts to people walking by.
The material change of use for 395 Hamilton Road, Chermside proposes to add a 24hr seven days a week stand-alone food and drink outlet in the southwest car park.
The application notes that refurbishments have also been proposed to the southwest shopping centre entry forecourt area, providing landscaping, a water feature as well as casual seating areas.
The area, adjacent to the Gympie Road entrance of the shopping centre, has only previously been used for carparking.
The Krispy Kreme proposal will however involve the removal of 53 parking spaces taking the centre’s total to 6555.
According to the planning documents, the development will increase the 199,054sq m gross floor area at the centre by 837sq m.
If successful, the proposed works would take place in two stages.
Stage one includes the redevelopment of the car park, construction of the Krispy Kreme with drive-through facilities and a pedestrian pathway.
The refurbishment of the southwest shopping centre external forecourt area, landscaping and a new passenger set down zone would be included in stage two works.
According to the planning documents, “the staging is not intended to be sequential, but rather to manage areas of development activity”.
“Either one of the stages may precede the other, or both stages may be delivered concurrently,” the document states.
A spokeswoman from Krispy Kreme declined to comment on the application at this stage.
