New service station coming to Maryborough, push to upgrade BP

Work is underway on a new 24 hour service station near Maryborough, while homes could be demolished to make way for the upgrade of an existing fuel outlet. SEE THE PLANS.

'Record high' petrol prices will 'continue to rise'

A new service station is being built near Maryborough, while the council is also considering a development to upgrade the existing BP outlet on Saltwater Creek Road.

The new service station would be built at the Island Plantation Road turn-off on Saltwater Creek Road across the road from St Helens State School.

According to the development application lodged for the BP at the intersection of Saltwater Creek Road and Woodstock Street, the new service station would include car and dog wash facilities and a convenience store in addition to the service station.

The expansion of the site would mean the demolition of several houses on the block neighbouring the BP station if the development was to be approved.

The application, from Wessel Petroleum, said the proposed development was considered “the highest and best use of the site”.

“The proposal would provide a compact urban form that would optimise the efficient delivery of infrastructure and services through the provision of fuel that would be provided in a conveniently located position on an urban arterial road,” the application reads.

“The proposal would support a diversified regional economy and contribute to employment by making the core business more viable and allow for growth and expansion.”

The new service station, if approved, would be open 24 hours a day.

Meanwhile, the petrol station planned at St Helens also included a car wash and a food and drinks outlet in its development plan.

Procon Developments set forward the plan for the new service station.

The application was approved by council in 2019 and is currently under construction.

It is set to open in June.
