Maryborough’s first 7-Eleven to open in 2022

Exciting times are ahead for lovers of slurpees and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, but RV and campervan visitors to the city will lose a convenient parking spot.

Exciting times are ahead for lovers of slurpees and Krispy Kreme doughnuts as Maryborough is set to receive its very own 7-Eleven.

A popular parking spot for RV campers will become the site of the city’s first 7-Eleven in 2022.

The store will be built next to the McDonalds on Alice Street, currently a vacant block where travellers towing caravans and driving motorhomes regularly park for access to the restaurant and nearby Station Square Shopping Centre.

The store is expected to open mid to late 2022, and will provide about 10 ongoing jobs and additional roles during the construction phase.

Other stores are being built in North Queensland and another is planned for Gympie.

7-Eleven Retail Area Lead North, Alan Plews, said the investment in new stores in the state in the past 18 months reflected the company’s commitment to Queensland.

“We’ve opened 14 stores in Queensland in the past 18 months, creating about 140 jobs and will continue to invest in our network over the next 12 months and beyond, including our first stores in Maryborough and Gympie,” he said.

The Fraser Coast is set to welcome its first 7-Eleven in 2022.

“Our ongoing investment in growing our network to serve metropolitan and regional Queenslanders means there are strong career prospects for people in our team as our network expands.

“We will be encouraging Maryborough and Gympie locals to apply to join our retail team in 2022.”

For those looking to start a retail career with the family-owned Australian retailer, experience in petrol and convenience isn’t a must-have to be considered.

“We provide training and development to set our people up for success one day one to empower them to build their careers with our business.

“Two of the crucial roles to be recruited will be for store leaders who can be trained and developed to lead their stores.

“While the recruitment process isn’t open for applications until next year, we’d encourage locals who are interested in a leadership role to contact us for a confidential discussion via pexstoreleader@7eleven.com.au.”

Recruitment of team members is expected to start about three months before the store opens.
