Three Sisters Bridal Boutique opens in Duggan Street

For decades Toowoomba brides went to Loraine’s Hair Dressing Studio in Duggan Street for the finishing touches on their big day. Three Sister Bridal Boutique moved into that iconic shop front and they’re keen to keep the tradition alive.

Toowoomba’s newest bridal store opened its doors on Friday, giving women access to the latest handmade gowns from Australian and New Zealand designers.

Three Sisters Bridal Boutique is the work of Toowoomba entrepreneur Lizzi Meyer, her sister Rachel O’Neill and her sister-in-law Kate Meyer.

Lizzi owns a second bridal gown store in Adelaide and said she opened the business partly because she wanted an excuse to spend more time in Toowoomba.

“We are originally from Toowoomba,” she said.

“We have two little girls, our family is here and we found that flying up to visit them was a huge expense so having another business here is a beautiful way to come back, to see our family, to have the girls know their cousins and their grandparents.”

The store exclusively stocks gowns made in Australia or New Zealand by local designers.

Lizzi buys them and Rachel – a qualified seamstress – makes alterations to suit the buyer’s wishes.

She said doing this in-house kept the price down for brides who wanted something unique for their big day.

“I think something comfortable is very in,” Lizzi said.

“Done are the days of big, uncomfortable, tight dresses.

“People just want something that is comfortable and wearable for the whole day.”

The sisters have taken on a shopfront in Duggan Street that used to be home to Loraine’s Hairdressing Salon – itself a bit of a Toowoomba institution.

They joined several other wedding businesses in that pocket of the CBD and Lizzi said the area was buzzing with activity.

“Duggan Street was a bit of a backstreet but it is growing in popularity,” she said.
