What Fraser Coast Super 66 winner plans to buy first with $81k windfall

A Super 66 winner has shared the unusual item he plans to buy first with his winnings after buying a ticket at a lucky regional newsagency that has had 11 Division 1 winners.

The Queenslander held one of the two division one winning entries in Super 66 draw 4403 on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

While some might focus on buying a car or a boat after a big Lotto win, one Fraser Coast man said his first thought went to replacing his phone, which he joked belonged “in a museum”.

Each division one winning entry scored $81,673.05.

“I had to sit down,” the winner said when an official from The Lott called to confirm his prize.

“I usually check my Saturday tickets on a Sunday morning. So, I only checked this about an hour ago.

“Well, I had to take a double look at it.

“It took my breath away and everything.

“There are a few things I need so this is perfect.

“In fact, the mobile phone I’m talking to you on belongs in a museum. My family jokingly asks who empties the coins out of the phone as it’s that old.

“Just yesterday, I was looking at buying an iPhone 15 Pro … and now I will.”

The man’s winning 1-game QuickPick entry was purchased at Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency, Shop 22-23, Stockland Shopping Centre, 6 Central Ave, Urraween.

Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency owner Steven Chow said the division one win marked a big milestone for his outlet.

“Today will forever be etched in my memory as the day our shop in Hervey Bay received extraordinary news. It was a moment of pure shock and disbelief that quickly gave way to jubilation,” he said.

“We’ve been patiently waiting for a new division one winner since April 2021, and the wait has finally come to an end. The feeling is akin to hitting a jackpot of our own.

“Our excitement knows no bounds, and we‘re eager to share this news with the Hervey Bay community.

“The Hervey Bay area deserves to know that their local shop is always the luckiest spot in town.

“Though our shop has seen 11 division one winners in the past, this one holds a special place in our hearts.

“It’s the first since we took over this shop in January 2023, making it a truly unforgettable moment in our journey.”
