The tragic loss of a beloved wife and mum is being mourned in Hervey Bay after she was killed in a car crash overseas.
Tributes were flowing on Saturday after it was revealed in a funeral notice that Elsa Geale had died on February 25, 2025 while on a trip to the Philippines.
She was remembered as the devoted wife of Murray, beloved mother of Maggie and nana to Charleigh and Rupert.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Maggie paid tribute to her beloved mum.
“My mother was a wonderful, selfless woman who did not deserve to pass in such tragic circumstances,” she said.
“Her memory lives on through me and her grandchildren, and we are committed to continuing her good work and preserving her legacy.”
A Facebook post from the Fil-Aust Community Association of Fraser Coast shared the tragic news in the wake of her death.
“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts (and still in shock) that we inform you all of the passing of Elsa Geale, our good friend and one of the long-time serving committee members of the (association),” the post read.
“Elsa flew home to the Philippines last Monday but was tragically involved in a vehicular accident that took her life.
“Her daughter Maggie will be bringing Elsa home in Hervey Bay.”
The post said the association would be making a donation to help assist the family with the expenses.
“As former secretary for many years and assistant treasurer, Elsa always took her responsibilities in our association seriously and was always apologetic when she couldn’t participate in our activities while caring for her husband,” the post read.
“She was one of people I really admire, Malou Leone said.
“She worked tirelessly behind the scenes and her work ethics are of high standard.
“The community will miss her quiet presence and ready smile in our future gatherings.
“Please include Elsa and the family she had left behind in your prayers.”
A funeral service will be held for Mrs Geale on March 24 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pialba from 10am.
Those attending the service were invited to wear yellow in her honour.
