Following hundreds of votes and with one per cent separating the top two places, Fraser Coast’s best hairdressers have been crowned. Here are the top 12.

With an unprecedented turnout of votes for Fraser Coast’s best hairdresser and tight margins between the top salons, the Fraser Coast Chronicle is revealing the top 10 salons.

There are 12 salons listed below, with some businesses receiving the same amount of votes.

10. Hair at Central Avenue Hervey Bay

Hair at Central Avenue Hervey Bay ranked 10th for the region’s best hairdressers, securing 2% of the votes.

Established in 2010, the salon changed hands to its current owner, Ashleigh Lurancee, in 2017 after she completed her apprenticeship there.

“We love creating beautiful hair, making clients feel their best, and boosting their confidence,” she said.

“The community’s votes and being in the region’s top 10 mean so much to us,” Ms Lurancee, who is preparing for maternity leave, said.

9. Bespoke Hair Studio/ HART of Hair

Bespoke Hair Studio and HART of HAIR tied for ninth place with two per cent of the votes.

Operating for eight years, Bespoke Hair Studio takes pride in fostering a safe space where individuals are encouraged to be their best selves.

The owner, Sarah, opened the salon to achieve more freedom and a better work-life balance.

“We advocate for each other as a team and strive to provide the best possible hair and salon experience for our guests,” she said. H

ART of HAIR, located on Bazaar St, Maryborough, shares the ninth spot.

Their established hair salon is renowned for its friendly and professional team.

8. The Burrum Hair Lounge/ Fraser-Shores Hair-Design

The Burrum Hair Lounge and Fraser-Shores Hair-Design tied for eighth place.

Burrum Hair Lounge owner Sarah Wells was thrilled to see her salon recognised among the top ten on the Fraser Coast.

Mrs Wells decided to pursue her own salon in January after facing toxicity and lack of support in previous environments.

“With my amazing team, we’ve created a safe space for hairdressers and our wonderful clients,” she said.

“We foster a friendly and positive environment, laughing and creating great hair while continually challenging ourselves with ongoing training, reflecting in our work.

“We love enhancing our clients’ natural beauty, inside and out.”

Tying for eighth place with The Burrum Hair Lounge, the team at Fraser-Shores Hair-Design takes pride in offering a warm and friendly atmosphere and providing all aspects of hairdressing to their clients.

Owned by Shantelle Durston, a professional hairdresser with 27 years of experience, the salon has earned praise for its “hidden treasure” location around the side of the Fraser Shores complex and behind the pathology, according to a spokesperson for the salon.

7. Madame Me Me’s for Hair

Madame Me Me‘s, a vision of experienced hairstylists Brett Wise and Lee Hayward, was voted as the seventh best.

Combining approximately 80 years of hairdressing experience, with Mr Hayward originating from the UK, they aim to create a luxurious salon experience where clients can comfortably discuss their hairstyling needs and leave feeling happy and satisfied.

“You can look forward to a complimentary glass of champagne, a latte, cappuccino or flat white, while you relax in the beautiful decor,” a salon spokesperson said.

“With the knowledge that comes from decades of experience you are assured that you’re in the best of expert hands.

“Their cutting and colour skills are highly sought after.”

Staff at Geraldine’s Hair Salon pride themselves in ensuring every customer leaves feeling and looking great, a spokesperson for the salon said.

“With our purpose-built beauty room, designed to facilitate complete beauty transformations, our friendly beauticians boast the superior facilities to offer exceptional results,” they said.

“At Geraldine’s Hair Salon, we understand everyone’s hair is different.

“Our friendly team of Maryborough stylists boast strong industry experience and qualifications in assorted areas of styling, hair care and beauty.”

5. Hair & Beauty by Tayah

Coming in fifth place, Tayah Watson has been running her home salon, Hair & Beauty by Tayah, for the last three years.

She said she first opened her salon for a better work and family life balance and to spend more time with her children.

“I also adapted my salon so other mums could bring their babies and children with them and still experience some self-care with their babies alongside them,” Ms Watson said.

Ms Watson designed the small home salon to be private, inclusive, and comfortable.

“I work on my clientele from start to finish, giving 110% of my attention to them and their hair,” she said.

4. Hip Happenin Hair

Maryborough business owner and mother, Heidi Watson, has secured fourth place for the region’s best hairdresser.

Ms Watson opened her home salon, Hip Happenin Hair, 14 years ago to balance her roles as a business owner and mother.

With 27 years of experience in hairdressing, Ms Watson previously ran a salon in Maryborough, which she purchased at the age of 18.

After managing the business for nearly seven years, she welcomed her first daughter, Ally, and made the choice to close the salon temporarily to prioritise time with her family.

Hip Happenin Hair prides itself as an “all Australian pure salon,” using only organic and Australian-made products.

“I work for myself and by myself, which I love because I am able to offer all our clients a special one on one experience,” Ms Watson said.

3. La Lars Hair

La Lars Hair came in third place for the region’s best hairdressers with 14 per cent of the votes.

With a team of three hairdressers and their two mini dachshunds, Olive and Tino, La Lars Hair prides themselves on having a connection with their clients that feels like family and friendship.

Three years ago, Laura Black opened the salon with the aim of providing her clients with the best hair experience they all desire.

“Most of our clients are not seen as clients but our friends,” she said.

“Since we have opened, we have continued to get more and more support and always strive for better.”

Ms Black said having the two dogs around is like puppy therapy for many clients, amusing children who come into the salon with their parents and helping to calm those with anxiety about getting a haircut.

“It’s truly a good feeling seeing other salons in the region embracing the idea of hair and puppy cuddles, as it really makes the environment relaxed and lighthearted,” she said.

2. Supreme Hair Artistry

Owner of runner-up Supreme Hair Artistry, Susy Flick, said the salon’s goal was to provide an “amazing” environment for staff and clients.

With 22 per cent of votes, Ms Flick said she firmly believes in the future of her industry and is dedicated to providing education for her team and the next generation of emerging stylists.

With 30 years of experience in the hairdressing industry, Ms Flick previously owned another hair salon, Unique Styles, in Maryborough for 10 years.

Five years ago, she opened Supreme Hair Artistry at the Westside Tavern complex and has since expanded her team to six stylists, boasting a collective 100 years of experience among them.

“I pride myself on creating an environment that allows my stylists to grow in a supported and friendly atmosphere, which also reflects on the quality of service provided to my clients,” she said.

1. Tash’s Hair House

For the fourth year in a row, Tash’s Hair House has been crowned the Fraser Coast’s best hairdresser with 23 per cent of the votes, narrowly surpassing Supreme Hair by 1 per cent.

Tash Kruske started the salon in her living room nine years ago, after deciding working in a busy salon wasn’t for her.

“It’s definitely a different salon experience. I don’t think you would get it anywhere else,” she said.

“My animals pop in every now and then, which a lot of clients open the door for them to come in.”

Miss Kruske said her seven-month-old Cavoodle puppy Bronte was very popular.

“She’s like the salon’s little icon,” she said.
