A Maryborough school was evacuated after fire broke out in a toilet block shortly before midday on Wednesday.

The fire started about 11.30am at Aldridge State High School in Boys Avenue

“The fire resulted in damage within one toilet cubicle and residual smoke damage to an amenities block,” a Education Department spokesman said.

“Emergency services attended the school and extinguished the fire.

“A whole school evacuation was enacted and everyone is safe.

“The school is working with Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services in their investigations.

“Access to the affected toilet has been restricted until investigations and repairs have been completed.

Alternative amenities are available during this time.

“The school is investigating the incident and will apply appropriate consequences in line with their Student Code of Conduct.

“No further details can be provided due to student privacy concerns.

“Guidance Officer support is available at the school to anyone that may require it.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
