A man, allegedly shot on a quiet country property in the middle of the night while a child was at the home, is the latest in a string of terrifying incidents that have left the retirement rich and normally family-friendly Fraser Coast community in shock.

From an alleged gunpoint carjacking to the alleged murder of a country club owner, guns have now been used in three high profile incidents in the Hervey Bay area in the past six weeks.

This is on top of a brazen ram raid in the city‘s main shopping centre and a string of armed robberies at service stations and other businesses in recent times.

Thursday night‘s shooting took place in Booral – the same rural suburb where local father Lee Andrew Price, 57, died after an alleged altercation at his family home in September last year.

The first recent firearm related incident happened on August 8, in Kawungan, when a gun was allegedly held to a man’s head during a carjacking.

A manhunt ensued, with a Hervey Bay man arrested over the incident weeks later.

Then, in an incident that shocked the region, the publican of the Craignish Country Club, Greg Harding, was allegedly murdered, killed by a close-range gunshot wound in the caretaker’s cottage he lived in.

Two men have since been charged.

On Thursday night, police and emergency services were called to a home on Booral Road just after midnight where they located a 47-year-old local man with an apparent gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigations indicate two men attended the property, approached the man and a verbal altercation ensued.

The man was then allegedly shot once in the back.

The pair fled in a vehicle they allegedly stole from the property, which was found around 7.30am on Friday in the nearby suburb of Kawungan on Doolong South Road.

The man was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A woman in her 40s and a male child were also transported to hospital for precautionary measures.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing with Maryborough detectives appealing for anyone with information to contact police.

One of the men was wearing light coloured clothing, the second man was wearing dark coloured pants, a light coloured shirt and was about 175cm tall.
