Bec Hansen makes brave decision to reopen Biggenden Bakery

A grieving mother who lost her daughter and fiance in an alleged homicide just before Christmas has made the brave decision to reopen the family’s bakery in their memory.

A grieving mother and widow who lost her partner and daughter in an alleged double murder just before Christmas has made the brave decision to reopen her business in their memory.

Bec Hansen, owner of the Biggenden Bakery, lost her daughter Kirra, 10, and her partner, Todd Mooney, on December 20, 2022, in a shed fire which is now the subject of a murder investigation.

Kristen Leslie Olsen has been charged with murdering Kirra and her father, as well as the arson of a shed on their Fenwick’s Road property.

Ms Hansen had been days away from marrying Mr Mooney at a ceremony on their property when the tragedy happened.

This week, a notice was shared by Ms Hansen announcing the reopening of the bakery, but asking for understanding from the community as she continues to grieve.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support,” she wrote.

“I am overwhelmed by your kind words and generosity.

“It truly fills me to know you are there.

“Please understand that, though I take this stand to reopen the Biggenden Bakery, in honour of my beloved fiance Todd and darling daughter Kirra’s, memory.

“I am still recovering from their sudden and tragic loss.

“Please do not take it personally should I not be available to communicate directly at this stage.

“Know that I appreciate and value you more than I can express.”

More than $10,000 has been raised to support Ms Hansen and her family through the tragedy.

In the wake of their deaths, tributes poured in for Kirra and Mr Mooney.

Kirra’s brother Brydon Jones said she had a “beautiful soul” and “gorgeous nature”.

“She was funny and loved her friends and family.”

He also spoke of his stepfather, Mr Mooney.

A spokeswoman from the Biggenden Swimming Club also paid tribute to Kirra.

“Biggenden Swimming Club are saddened to hear one their Barracudas and her father had passed,” she said.

“Kirra was a valued member of the Biggenden Swimming Club.

“Kirra is a quiet achiever, gave everything a go and always tried her best on club nights. Kirra was a sweet and gentle soul with a kind heart and wore a smile on her face.

“Kirra’s parents were also valued members of the club.

“Todd and Bec were great supporters of the Biggenden Swimming Club and our club appreciated their sponsorship.

“Kirra and Todd will be remembered fondly.”
