LNP Burnett MP Stephen Bennett claims the state government has lost touch with regional Queensland following a “dismissive” responses to inaction over the Walkers Point boat ramp.
The Member for Burnett said the upgrades promised for the Woodgate boat ramp were on the Travel and Main Road’s “list of priority recreational boating projects,” but no work had begun.
“It’s been two years since an upgrade to the Walkers Point boat ramp was assessed, prioritised, and included in the list of projects for consideration in a future works program,” he said.
“How can the Palaszczuk Government claim it’s a ‘priority project’ but fail to do one single thing about it?”

Mr Bennett backed a petition to call on the house to commence construction and has slammed the response he received from Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey.
“I have to ask if the latest response from Minister Bailey is a joke?” he said.
In his response to the petition, Mr Bailey said “an upgrade to the Walkers Point boat ramp, including concept feasibility investigations and costings for the provision of a breakwater, remains on the list of priority recreational boating projects for consideration in a future works program”.
“Any upgrade to the landside facilities (including car-trailer parking) is the responsibility of Bundaberg Regional Council and a matter for its consideration.”
Mr Bennett described the response as “dismissive”.
“I am sick and tired of watching this government waste taxpayers’ money,” he said.
“The Premier and her ministers aren’t listening to what Queenslanders want and need.”
Mr Bailey’s office was contacted for a comment.
