Woodgate locals and boaties are a step closer to seeing a safety upgrade at the Walkers Point Boat Ramp.
Burnett MP Stephen Bennett, who has been campaigning for safety improvements for the ramp with locals, said he had secured a commitment to prioritise works, including provision of a breakwater.
Mr Bennett said the boat ramp, which he labelled “notoriously dangerous”, had been cause for concern for quite some time.
“Our local anglers are often put in a very dangerous situation at the Walkers Point Boat ramp due to the tide and current, which I have raised with the minister time and time again,” he said.
“Finally, we have an acknowledgment from the minister that this particular boat ramp must be prioritised in future works programs, which is a step in the right direction.”
Mr Bennett said he would continue to push for the safety upgrades to ensure the works were carried out in a timely manner.
“Locals and boating enthusiasts can now look forward to critical steps being undertaken in the future to improve access and reduce risks, and I’ll be keeping the minister and his government accountable on their commitment,” he said.
“Being out on the water is a huge part of life for many who live in the Burnett region, so it’s vital we make access to the water as safe as possible.”
