Ms Atkinson took the win with 24 per cent of the vote, after coming up through the industry from a start with Napoleon Perdis in Brisbane, then some freelance and mobile work.

In the past decade she has expanded her business beyond make-up and now offers a range of services including massage, men’s and women’s waxing, Reiki and energy healing.

Her holistic approach to beauty and self confidence is a large part of her success, as she treats her clients as more than just a blank canvas.

“I look at it as I just want to help people,” Ms Atkinson said after receiving the good news.

“People might see my services as a ‘luxury’ but for me it’s so much more than that,” she said.

“Even when I am doing a beauty service I am always in tune; I might say something to one of my clients and they’ll get to talking and can just release whatever is on their mind.”

Va’lure Beauty is located in Avoca’s Growth Gym owned by Ms Atkinson’s partner Zak Menhennett. The arrangement offers her a unique chance to provide care and health support services to men who most likely would never think to access a beauty therapist.

“I think it really ties in with the physical recovery of a workout session. I think what we have built together as a couple has come together quite well,” she said.

She thanked for clients for their ongoing support which helped the business continue to grow through her recent birth and period of homelessness triggered by the rental crisis.

“My clients have really supported me through that time of being mobile, while this (the gym) was built, while juggling my children, pregnant and homeless,” she said.
