The iconic Coral Cove Golf Course could be in for a makeover as part of a massive development planned to bring hundreds of residential homes to the area.

The masterplan proposal for Coral Cove Drive by Sydney developer Urbis would turn the 195-hectare site into a housing development broken into four key “precincts”.

Precinct one would include the extension and improvement of the iconic golf course, though golfing enthusiasts are not to worry as community consultation has confirmed the need to preserve the main holes on the green, including the iconic Hole 2.

“The community generally supports the proposed golf course reconfiguration and the development of the Coastal Club,” the report said.

“However, hole 2 has been identified as the most significant hole in the golf course and is recognised as an iconic asset for Coral Cove residents and visitors, that should be retained in the configuration.”

As part of the Precinct One development, a function facility would be built alongside a club house, a shop, a hotel and a food and drink outlet.

Short-term accommodation of 40 units and 80 cabins would also be built in this zone to suit tourists.

Precincts Two, Three and Four would include long-term accommodation housing with lot sizes ranging from 210m2 to 880m2.

Precinct Four would also house a “Local Centre” zone, complete with a shopping centre and food and drink outlets.

While tourism is a key driving force behind the proposal, it is also hoped it will provide broader housing options for the region, which once completed will offer 1,100 residential dwellings.

“The proposed development addresses the critical need for housing in Bundaberg by offering a significant and diverse range of residential lots and dwelling sizes and types,” the report said.

“Its strategic location provides residents with convenient access to key services, employment hubs and coastal recreation opportunities promoting a balanced lifestyle and fostering a vibrant and connected community.”
