One option is to construct a new building on the western or eastern sides of the current station, with the existing building to be repurposed.
Another option is to renovate and extend the existing building “in line with heritage and council guidelines”.
The design proposal includes an airconditioned customer lounge with improved seating and toilet facilities, improved signage, service information screens and an emergency help system.
Upgrades are also proposed to the station car parking to include a drop-off zone integrated with other transport providers.
The proposal features accessibility improvements including tactile ground indicators, handrails, adjustable desk height at the luggage check in and new accessible toilets.

Minister for Transport Mark Bailey said that the Bundaberg railway station upgrade is part of a broader state government initiative to upgrade priority stations in the regional network also including Maryborough West and Rockhampton.
There has been $51m provided for the upgrades across the three stations, Queensland Rail said in September 2022.
Nine community consultation sessions are scheduled over five days between Thursday, May 11 and Thursday, May 18 at Bundaberg railway station.
Details of the community consultation sessions and an online feedback form can be found on the Queensland Rail website.
