Antonio Robert Donald Love pleads guilty to Bundaberg BMX Club break-in

A plasterer who broke into a Bundaberg sporting club and stole tools, soft drinks and lollies gave police an odd explanation for his antics.

A plasterer blamed his birthday antics and the pokies for his decision to break into the Bundaberg BMX Club and steal tools, confectionery and soft drinks.

Antonio Robert Donald Love had a night out for his birthday in the lead-up to the November 13 break-in, where Bundaberg Magistrates Court heard he “got loose” and spent up big on poker machines.

Despite his employment as a gyprock plasterer, Love told police he was worried about his ability to pay for his upcoming car registration.

It was then he decided to don a black ski mask and break into the club, but CCTV cameras captured every moment.

Love was arrested shortly after and taken into custody.

Lawyer Lavonda Maloy told the court her client “smokes cannabis to escape reality and the grind of daily life” and had fallen back into old habits with his offending.

Magistrate John McInnes said while the situation was serious, he accepted Love had made a poor decision rather than returned to offending.

“Usually when you find someone cutting chains and wearing a balaclava, then their history has about 10 things on it,” he said.

The court heard all items were recovered.

Love pleaded guilty to entering a premises and committing an indictable offence by break.

He received a head sentence of six months’ jail, suspended for nine months.
