Paranormal Bundy: The places where you’re most likely to have a spooky encounter

You could be forgiven for thinking there was something in the water in this Queensland city - and in the air, and in the bushes... but why is the region such a hotbed for reports of paranormal activity?

You could be forgiven for thinking there was something in the water in Bundaberg - and in the air, and in the bushes...

The region has long been home to numerous reports of paranormal events and occurrences, but it's the sheer variety of strange events that really sets it apart.

Given the number of encounters, we’ve compiled this list of some of the places where eerie encounters have been reported.

Moore Park Ghost

Moore Park Beach

Is there something going on in Moore Park? For its size, the sleepy seaside suburb has had its fair share of weird happenings.

Bill Wenham shared his story about the day he saw a woman in his yard, who simply vanished.

Noticing how terrified his cat was, Bill went to have a look before spotting the woman in his yard.

“I said ‘are you right?’ or words to that effect, and she just disappeared,” he said.

Mr Wenham said the woman wore brown slacks and had a blonde ponytail and was walking in a straight line without acknowledging him.

You can hear more of his eerie tale in the video above.

But ghosts aren’t the only creatures hanging out in Moore Park - UFOs seem pretty fond of it, too.

A woman, known by her first name Wendy, shared her encounter in an online podcast episode and said she’d been receiving telepathic messages from somewhere before seeing what she believed was an alien craft in the sky.

To add to the collection, a family came forward to share their encounter with what they believe was a yowie at Moore Park Beach.

The seaside township sure does pack a paranormal punch.

The Burnett River

Over the years the Burnett River has been home to some curious encounters.

While there are historical reports of bunyips in the Burnett River at Gayndah, there have also been some not-so-paranormal scaly critters apparently spotted in the waters closer to town.

Crocs have apparently been spotted in the waters as recently as January last year and at times, crocodile warning signs have even gone up on the riverbank.

But on the otherworldly side once more, a local man spotted something perhaps less frightening than a croc but a lot more perplexing.

The man said he was sitting near the Burnett River on Quay Street when he saw a bright light emanating from under the water.

“I think about it every day, doubting what I saw, going over it,” he said.

“I’ve looked at the Burnett and so many other rivers and oceans, it’s a first.”

The man told the NewsMail the bright light was about 50-60m from land and became so intense he had to shield his eyes.

Beneath the surface he could make out a dark, round object about 3-4m across.

There was no sound and no disturbance to the water.

One reader came forward after reading the story to say he believed the object might have been an underwater UFO.

Queensland paranormal investigator Cali Jade told the NewsMail on Sunday there had been documented cases of underwater UFOs around the world.

Barolin Street

While we’ve only documented one incident on Barolin Street, it’s a frightening one.

A local father and son were driving along the road near Foodworks when a woman rushed on to the road and tried to get into the car - the chilling giveaway that she wasn’t a real woman? The fact her hand disappeared into the door handle.

Not only was there a ghostly hitchhiker in the duo’s midst, but a ghostly family was watching them from afar.

Ms Jade said in cases where ghosts were in distress at the end of their mortal lives, they often repeated a loop.

Ms Jade said in such cases, spirits who passed away in negative ways and were acting in distress needed to be crossed into the light.

Crossing into the light would mean they could still exist as spirits, but with a greater understanding and a letting go of their human and physical pain.

The Ring Road

The Ring Road is a fairly new construction in terms of local infrastructure. The $50 million stretch of road was completed in 2008.

But it hasn’t taken long for spooky tales to become apparent on the stretch.

Readers have previously told the NewsMail about a phantom motorbike they’ve had follow them along the Ring Road, only to disappear or existing only as a motorcycle light travelling along the road.

The Bruce Highway

Whether it‘s min min lights or UFOs, the Bruce Highway, which encompasses the Bundaberg region, is becoming more well known for strange encounters.

Paranormal podcaster Kade Moir says he's spoken to numerous people who have encountered something odd on the 1679km stretch of main road.

“Delivery drivers who go down the Bruce see shadow figures on the side of the road and some even have genuine interactions with them,” he said.

There are also spooky accounts of ghost passengers, UFOs following vehicles and even the occasional yowie sighting.

The region’s heritage buildings

It’s no surprise old buildings are said to contain spirits, but ours are so spooky that paranormal researchers have even travelled to the region to check some of them out.

One such building is the Apple Tree Creek Memorial Hall, where the ghost of a gentleman is said to haunt the grounds on cold mornings.

Paranormal investigators even captured fascinating video and images at the Grand Hotel in Childers that is said to be haunted by the legendary Luke the Spook.

Queensland Paranormal Society founder Amanda Richardson once claimed the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks factory and Bundaberg Rum Distillery are both haunted.

The iconic Old Bundaberg Tavern has been said to have many a paranormal tale through the years.
