‘Like a submarine’: Claims of mysterious object and blinding light seen in Burnett River

A Bundaberg man was enjoying a normal day by the river when he spotted something truly strange below the surface of the water. Now, he’s hoping someone can help shed light on the mystery.

A Bundaberg man is hoping someone can shed some logical light on something he saw in the Burnett River.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the incident happened on April 14 and he’s been scratching his head ever since - even revisiting the location to see if it would happen again.

The man said he was sitting near the Burnett River on Quay St when he saw a bright light emanating from under the water.

“I think about it every day, doubting what I saw, going over it,” he said.

“I’ve looked at the Burnett and so many other rivers and oceans, it’s a first.”

The man told the NewsMail the bright light was about 50-60m from land and became so intense he had to shield his eyes.

Beneath the surface he could make out a dark, round object about 3-4m across.

There was no sound and no disturbance to the water.

“I thought a submarine was about to surface,” he said.

The encounter lasted about five seconds, but was so unusual that the man has been back since to try and see it again.

“It’s something now that I think about every day, thinking rationally what it was,” he said.
