Countdown begins for Childers Festival 2023

The much-anticipated Childers Festival is returning for 2023 with the main event expected to attract 30,000 visitors and close part of the Bruce Hwy.

The four-day Childers Festival is returning in July with the main attraction a Bruce Hwy-stopping street market with live music and dozens of stalls.

The festival with return with a Fiesta Latina theme over four days starting on Thursday, July 27.

Friday will bring an adults only Night of Burlesque at the Paragon Theatre along with a Picnic in the Vines at Vintner's Secret.

Multiple events will delight visitors and locals alike on Saturday including Opera by the Lake, a Paragon Theatre Tour, a Historical Bus Tour and the main event the Fiesta Latina.

Held on Crescent St from 4pm, the street festival will feature Latin rhythms, food and culture in a family friendly carnival of colour.

An Arts in the Park event will also promote local artists and creativity on Saturday and a multicultural mass will join faiths on Saturday morning.

The main day of the Childers Festival will kick of Sunday morning, with thousands expected to arrive for the street markets, held on the Bruce Hwy.

Traffic diversions will be in place during the duration of the street markets, from 9am-3.30pm, where there will be street performances, live music and stalls.

Many of the events offer free entry with tickets for limited seating events available from May 29 on the Childers Festival website.

Bundaberg Regional Council councillor Bill Trevor welcomed the return of the event, and said it was an amazing opportunity to promote the region and boost tourism.

“There will be the opportunity to hear stories of heartbreak and humour, heroes and villains that have shaped the history of Childers during the Historical Bus Tour,” Mr Trevor said.

“Childers Festival’s famous market day sees more than 30,000 people flock to the small town for celebrity artists and live music from every genre and decade.

“There’s definitely always something for everyone at the Childers Festival.”
