Bonza reveals cost of plane ticket from Bundaberg to Melbourne

Bonza chief commercial officer Carly Povey said when the airline launched in 2021, it talked about its point of difference and how the airline could better connect the regions to travel destinations. Now it has taken the next step in that direction.

New budget airline ‘Bonza’ to target 'ignored' routes

Bonza airline has revealed more details around the flights they will be offering into and out of Bundaberg.

An announcement at Bundaberg Regional Airport on Friday revealed the average ticket cost would be about $50 per one hour flight.

But, that was not the cheapest ticket.

Flights will be available twice a week to and from Melbourne by mid-2022.

Bonza chief commercial officer Carly Povey said when the airline launched in October 2021, it talked about its point of difference and how the airline could better connect the regions to open up travel destinations.

“Bundaberg is absolutely the right choice for Bonza,” she said.

“Melbourne is just the start, we’re very very keen to grow the partnership with Bundaberg.”

It will be the first time the direct route has been an option for Australian travellers.

Rick Howell from the investment company backing Bonza, 777 Partners, and Bonza’s executive chairman said a brand new fleet of 737 MAX Aircraft would be on hand for the route.

“Our brand new fleet of 737 MAX aircraft, the youngest, most technologically advanced and most efficient in Australia, will ensure more Aussies get to travel at low prices but with the bar set high on the quality of their experience with us,” Mr Howell said.

The new Bundy route is one of just 25 new flight routes for Bonza across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

“Although some airlines in the past have connected the two, low cost travel does not mean low quality travel,” Mr Howell said.

“We’re investing in advanced aircraft to bring the opportunity for low fares along with great environmental efficiencies.”

Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey said the direct flight route to and from Melbourne would broaden the tourism opportunities for the region.

“It’s Bonza that Bundaberg is getting direct services to Melbourne, and I urge everyone to get on board, go purple and take to the skies to support them,” Mayor Dempsey said.

“I’ve been working for years to get new flights into Bundaberg, and this is great news.

“Local people can soon travel faster and cheaper to enjoy top-flight sports and cultural experiences and visit loved ones, while our tourism industry will have access to a massive new market.

“Bundaberg offers the quintessential Aussie experience from iconic beverages to bush heritage, turtles, pristine beaches and the southern Great Barrier Reef.

“As the home of AFL legend Emma Zielke and Melbourne Storm star Felise Kaufusi, we promise a warm Bundy welcome to all our southern visitors.”

The Bundaberg to Melbourne flight is still subject to regulatory approval, so prices have not yet been disclosed.

However, the Bonza website says their flight prices don’t include luggage or extra leg room.

Flights are expected to go on sale in eight weeks.
