Bundaberg Regional Council has taken a clear stance against Domestic and Family Violence, joining a local committee and other organisations in signing the DFV Free Community Commitment Statement.
Council is one of the organisations represented on the Domestic and Family Violence Free Community Group committee.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said she was pleased to add her signature to the pledge on behalf of Bundaberg Regional Council.
“Council works alongside local agencies, including the Queensland Police Service, and we are aware that this is a very real and unacceptable issue,” Ms Blackburn said.
“By signing the commitment statement we are sending the clear message that this type of behaviour is not good enough.
“We should not walk past what we will not accept.”
The commitment statement reads:
“Bundaberg Regional Council Says No to Domestic and Family Violence.
No to accepting it ‘just happens’.
No to it is ‘not my business’.
No to excuses.
No to looking the other way.
I say Domestic and Family Violence is never OK. It is up to people like you and me – to make a change.
I am taking a stand and call upon all members of the community to join me as a DFV Free Community Matters to Me.“
May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, and to mark the occasion, Bundaberg Regional Council’s Neighbourhood Centres hosted a number of events.
