The $23 Kmart storage solution you need for your jumpers this winter

If you're not quite ready to part ways with your summer clothes to free up hanging space... this hack is for you.

Woman shows how to triple your wardrobe space in seconds

Well, it's officially winter - which means two things.

  1. Everyone seems to be going to Europe except for you
  2. Everyone stuck in Australia collectively forgets how to dress for cold weather

We awkwardly layer up on jumpers, wear puffer coats with literally any outfit and wear stockings under our summer dresses.

Winter fashion really doesn't come naturally to us Aussies.

Needless to say, you've likely pulled out all your jumpers from storage by now and are wondering how to wear them and with what.

You also might be wondering how the heck you find room for them in your wardrobe?!

If you're not quite ready to part ways with your summer clothes to free up hanging space... your wardrobe is probably looking like this woman's one below.

Aka: a hot mess.

But never fear, because the helpful people of the Kmart Hacks & Decor group came to her rescue and helped her (and us) organise our chaotic winter wardrobes.

The original poster, Manda, received over 170 comments on her post. She ended up taking one member's advice and bought an extra shelving unit to store her jumpers.

This is how it turned out:

Manda said that she used the Four Cube Unit in White which is just $23 from Kmart.

By placing the shelving unit inside her wardrobe, she could capitalise on the empty space above her hangers and neatly organise her jumpers into each compartment.

No more pulling out one and having five more topple out after it!

Other storage solutions for your jumpers

If you don't have room for the cube unit in your wardrobe or are just looking for more ideas, read on for more nifty storage tips from the Facebook group.

"I have a few of these hanging organisers (pictured below)", one woman wrote.

Another said: "Just yesterday I got my shoes and handbags out of these baskets so jumpers can go in there. They can just be thrown into baskets or boxes, without creases and out of sight."

"I use those big long storage containers that have wheels on them from Bunnings they are short enough to fit under my king-size bed, I can get four of them under my king and queen beds. A good tip is to also store them with a few boxes of your favourite incense, mine is sandalwood. That will keep them smelling divine, and will also keep the moths out," said another.

"I’m getting these ones (below) that slide out. Stack two at the top of my cupboard. Folding knits is the best," wrote a different woman.

"Get something like this felt box (above). I have these stacked on top of my wardrobe for shoes. Get a step ladder if you need them. Or get basket tubs as everyone does for their linen press and just grab the basket down when you need a jumper," a different comment read.

Someone also suggested using coat hangers that are designed for jumpers. They said: "You can buy these neat shoulder covers that slip over existing coat hangers at IKEA (below). They are specially designed for knitwear."

"Only have three-four in a pile, colour coordination helps a lot," said someone else. "If you hang as many as possible you’ll find it easier as well. Get rid of all the mismatched coathangers and get all the same ones. Hang everything facing the same way, and hang with whites/lights at one end and blacks at the other like mine (above). If you have enough hanging space, you can separate more: jumpers separately, or seasonal, but do it with EVERYTHING."

Or if all else fails, you can always take this woman's advice:

"Throw them in the wardrobe then shut the door really quick, then pull it all out and search for the one you want one day."
